Conflict-verb-to contend, struggle, fight, clash, antagonize or upset. We have talked about internal and external conflict with the characters in books we have read. I would like you to share a conflict the character is having in your book. Tell us if it is an internal (inward, within themselves) or external (outside of themselves) with another character. Be specific with what you share. Make a prediction on how you think your character will resolve the conflict.

My character J.D. is trying to get away from the Evil Dr. A. The problem is he has a gray device that controls them all, so she can’t get out. With one click the music will play, and she will be under his control. She has to learn to ignore the music so she can find out what Dr. A is doing to her, before it’s too late.

The book I just read was The Junkyard Dog. The main character is Katie. She has an external conflict with two characters, her mom and her step dad. Her conflict with her Mom was that her Mom wasn’t letting her go feed the junkyard dog, because she though he had flees and he was dirty. The conflict with her step dad was that Katie wasn’t used to her Mom having a man around, also she thought that he was treating her like she was a little kid but she is twelve.

There are a lot of conflicts going on in my book between three of my characters, but the most juicy conflict I would like to share is the one between Allie and Leif. Allie wants to believe that Nick and she aren’t stuck in Everlost forever, but Leif is trying to make them stay with him in his safe woods without a care in the world of the dead. Allie doesn’t want to believe Lief and neither does Nick. I think now that Allie and Nick are gone, and out searching for a way back to the living world, Lief will realize that he just wants a friend and will go out after them and help them find a way back. Or Allie and Nick will just give up and come back and live happily ever after.

In Rules, an eight year old boy named David, with autism, is trying to learn the rules that his 12 year old sister makes for him. When it’s time for David to go to the speech therapist he says ” I want to go to the video store because that’s his favorite place. David is starting to learn the rules that his sister makes like no toys in the fish tank, don’t take your pants off in public, dont hug the video store clerk and so on and so forth. I’m really enjoying this book and I hope that maybe if you haven’t read it already I would really recommend it!!!!

My conflict in this book is about an eight year old boy with autism who has to do the rules that his mom and twelve year old sister are teaching him. He has to try so hard to avoid breaking these rules, so he will do these rules right. Well I guess you will just have to read to find out for yourself to see what rules he has to learn. The book is called Rules by Cynthia Lord.

My character, Tommy, had an internal conflict. He is so confused in what to do with his extraordinary find. He has lost two dads, and now it is just him and his mom, and they are living in an apartment located next to the Robie house which is going to be destroyed. Tommy’s miraculous find may or may not be a personal object that belonged to Frank Lloyd Wright himself, and he didn’t know wether to show it to an expert and sell it for money to help save the Robie House, or keep it for himself and his mom to help pay for a real house. You will have to read the book yourself if you want to find out what the object is, how much it is worth, and what Tommy did with it.

I think this is an external conflict. The conflict with Rick and Wallace is about Wallace quiting the football team and Rick blaming Wallace for all of his teams losses. It’s also about Wallace blaming Rick on attacking the school play. I think Wallace will rejoin the football team and end their conflict.

The situation my character is in right now is an internal and external conflict. She’s wondering if she she should tell some incriminating news about her friends to the police. She knows it is the right thing to do. If she doesn’t, they could get away with murder. She doesn’t want to break their friendship.

I am reading the book Eldest, the sequel to Eragon. Right now, Eragon (who is fifteen) is training to be a dragon rider and fight against the evil king, Galbatorix, in Ellesmera the hidden elvin city. Right now his trainer, who was a former rider, is giving Eragon a hard time about the little he has already learned. Eragon is angry beacause his teacher is trying to make him do something practically imposible, closing his eyes and being able to concentrate on all of the living things around him at once, and the fact that he has a great difficulty succeding the trainers so-called simple task. I think that this is inbetween an internal and an external conflict, because he is angry with the teacher but also angry with himself. I think that he will keep trying to make the connection, and eventually he will make it in an unexpected way.

Then it was Doon’s turn, a boy from her school, to go up and pick a job. He got the job Lina wanted, which was a messanger. So they traded with jobs. They were very, very, very happy. :)

Well, I finshed the book Hoot, but I’ll tell you about a conflict there was in the book Hoot. Roy went to Mullet Fingers house (the Jo-Jo’s ice cream truck in the junk yard) to see Mullet fingers. When he got there Mullet Fingers was just about to leave. Roy asked where he was heading for in such a big rush Mullet Fingers said he was going to the construction site. Roy asked why Mullet Fingers answered by saying nothing. So Roy said why? Then Mullet Fingers said I have to do something. Roy said No!!!! Then Mullet Fingers hollered I HAVE TOO!! Roy said we are all ready in enough trouble. Then Mullet Fingers told Roy to move out of the way so he could leave but wouldn’t. Then Mullet Fingers pushed Roy on the ground and took off running.

My book is Christopher Mouse, there is a slight problem or conflict. It first starts out with Christopher as a little baby, starting his wonderful life, and then figuring out that he has to leave his home and go either to a labratory or the pet shop and have a family buy him as a pet. So during those days his mother teaches him and his two other brothers and one sister, what to stay away from and hope to go to the pet shop and find a non abusing family. About five days after his two brothers get sold to the labratory, and he and Anna get to stay two more days, they got sold to the pet shop. They said goodbye to their mother, and off to the rumbling box.

When they got to the pet shop, it was a hold new world. The good thing was is they meet to other animals that became there friends that have been there for quite some time. A parrot and a hamster. The parrot was really silly and the hamster was quite amusing, he was kind of rude, but he new what he was doing. The parrot loves to say poems, so he said some and Christopher and Anna enjoyed them. Now it was off to sleep!
The next day Anna got sold to a little girl and her mother. While they were walking in the little girl got really excitied once the bussiness man showed they the little mice. She smiled and said Mommy I would like one of these. The mom said are you sure. You switch quite often. The mice were so scared, but happy they weren’t going to get killed at the labrotory.

She said yes, I would like that one, it was Anna!
He picked her up and went into the rumbling box once more. Christopher was really sad. He didn’t want to do anything for a while. No poems, no nothing.
“Yes, I hope it is me”, Christopher said he doesn’t look that happy or nice. The hamster said just give him a minute, he will soon smile.

The hamster was right, he looked around the store, and sure enough he smiled, a very bright smile. He walked over and look into the mice cage. Christopher looked at him back. He was still sad but he thought he should amuse him. So he did.

The little boy said, “I would like this one sir.”

The boy went home with him, and took very very good care of him. Christopher was very happy.
Till the day the little, mean lying boy came. That’s the day Christopher went to the wrong place.

No more good food, a cage was hardly ever changed to be cleaner.
So he was done with it all. He thought of the way….. to be continued.

    :]
